Growth raises questions about campus expansion

For the last four years, The Master’s University has reached record-breaking numbers of continual increase. Last fall, the school achieved the long-desired goal of growing from 24 students to more than 1,200 students on campus.

The growth of TMU has prompted questions of how to accommodate the next incoming class if the number continues to grow. Students and faculty have speculated about campus expansion and what that would look like.

But how much more growth can the school take?

Christie Fukuda, an alumna and admissions counselor, shared her thoughts about the school’s increase, what she has observed and what she predicts for this fall’s incoming class.

“We are hoping for a similar year as last year. There are no plans to expand exponentially. We don’t want to compromise the student experience if we don’t have the room,” Fukuda said. “Our job is being faithful and letting in the right students.”

The admissions department is hopeful and excited for the next influx of students joining TMU this fall. Additionally, they are expecting to maintain the current number of students on campus.

The tight-knit community is one of the major reasons why students choose to attend TMU, and the college experience may change if that number grows. Fukuda said it is the goal of TMU to continue with this community of closeness and personability.

Regardless of any campus expansion, TMU aims to faithfully preserve its motto—“For Christ & Scripture.”

“The school has had a continual increase, even from when I was a student. It just seems that more people know about TMU now. What matters is that at the core, TMU is the same,” Fukuda said.
